As event planners and organizers in the Memphis area have been monitoring the weather forecast for Saturday, Dec. 9, multiple events are being rescheduled or cancelled outright.
Rain is possible off-and-on throughout the day, but a round of storms Saturday afternoon and evening could produce heavier rain and some gusty winds.
Here are the events affected by the inclement weather:
The Memphis Holiday Parade (cancelled)
The Memphis Holiday Parade on Beale Street has been cancelled outright. Organizers of the parade said that they looked at the possibility of moving the parade to another date, but that it "doesn't work for all involved."
"Safety is our top priority and we want to make sure we host events that do not put your safety at risk," organizers of the parade said in a social media post. "Because of this, we are making the difficult decision to cancel the Memphis Holiday Parade on Saturday."
Ice Skating in the Park (moved venues)
An ice skating event previously featured at Audubon Park has been moved inside to the McFarland Community Center on Dec. 9. The event on Friday will remain at Audubon park.
Cookies, hot cocoa and popcorn are said to be served at the event and skates are provided. The event is free, according to organizers.
Germantown Holiday Parade (rescheduled)
Organizers of the Germantown Holiday Parade have said that it will be moved to Sunday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. Road closures will accordingly be in effect on that day:
At noon:
• Southbound lanes of Kimbrough from Wolf River Boulevard to Farmington Boulevard (Parade entry line-up)
At 1 p.m.
• Southbound lanes of Kimbrough from Farmington Boulevard to Pine Valley Lane
• East and westbound lanes of Farmington Boulevard from Kimbrough Road to Exeter Road.
• The north and southbound lanes of Exeter Road from Farmington Boulevard to Neshoba Road
Bluff City Christmas Parade in Hickory Hill (rescheduled)
The Christmas parade in Hickory Hill has been rescheduled to Dec. 17. Promising the "bluff city parade experience," live entertainment provided by Evie McKinney, Bird Williams and Kristen Amani is still said to be featured in the event.
The Bluff City Christmas Parade is set to be hosted by Dr. Telisa Franklin and Ladell Beamon with Grand Marshall Shelby County Board Commission Chairwoman Miska Clay Bibbs. It is scheduled to start at Winchester and Hickory Hill Road at noon and end at Winchester and Castleman Street.
This is a developing story and as more information on events affected by weather becomes available, ABC24 will update this article.
