(localmemphis.com) Alton Brown said in a recent interview in the podcast, The Eater Upsell, that Memphis his favorite place for food in the country.

The food critic has eaten everywhere but he said he loves Memphis favorites such as Gus’s World Famous Chicken, Gibson’s Donuts, and Dyer’s.

Local 24 News asked a fan of Memphis food about why he thinks Memphis has the best food.

The taste, Kendrick Stubbs said. It’s just southern hospitality.

Stubbs, originally from Mississippi, said his city to eat in is Memphis.

But Gus’s, Stubbs said. That’s my number one spot to eat at.

Brandy Voyles is an employee of Gus’s and said she grew up eating at the original Gus’s in Mason, Tennessee.

She said the reason why Memphis is the best place for food is because of the pride people take in what they serve.

Because the people are so happy about the food! Voyles said.

Kendall Robertson is the manager of Dyer’s and said Memphis is the best because of the wide range of good food.

Well, Memphis has all kinds of different food, Robertson said. Mostly known for the barbeque, but a place like Dyer’s you can get burgers that are 107 years old.

Dyer’s is known for the unique way it makes its burgers in a specially made skillet and a grease that’s been used since the place first opened in 1912.

Dyer’s grease is from 1912 and it’s the same grease we started with in 1912, Robertson said. And we filter it and season it every day, but it’s got the same molecules in it from 1912 and it’s the only burger that’s deep fried in grease.

Robertson runs a few restaurants in Memphis and said the pride restaurant owners have in what they make is what makes the food in Memphis great.

The staff in Memphis is very drawn to what they do, and they love what they do for a living and I think that helps the culture if everybody’s proud of what they do here in Memphis, Robertson said.
