The Wiseacre Brewing Company is opening a second facility just blocks form the National Civil Rights Museum.
The new brewery and tap room are planned for an area that’s currently a grass lot at the corner of B.B. King and Butler Avenue.
“Timing feels right. Demand pans out to make some more beer. We’ve had to deny some distribution opportunities because we can’t make any more beer, so we’ve got the opportunity to grow our business and make Memphis a better place a destination for beer lovers.”
The new facility will be about 40,000 square feet with better views of the fermenting tanks and will allow increased production.
Wiseacre co-owner, Kellan Bartosch says more space means more jobs.
“Timing feels right,” said Bartosch. “Demand pans out to make some more beer. We’ve had to deny some distribution opportunities because we can’t make any more beer, so we’ve got the opportunity to grow our business and make Memphis a better place a destination for beer lovers.”
Bartosch says while the new space will give them the ability to create new flavors and it will also allow them to promote more businesses in the South Main area.
“We’ve been sort of joking around here that this is our second album,” said Bartosch. “That this (the current location on Broad Ave) is our first album, but this may be our last album ever. We’re building a facility that we believe will last a long way into the future.”
If production starts this winter as planned, Wiseacre could be open for business in South Main within a year.
