WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (localmemphis.com) – UPDATE 12/23/2019, 10:15 a.m.: West Memphis police detectives have determined that the 14-year-old victim was accidentally shot by a 16-year-old boy while a group of teens were playing with a gandgun that one of them had found.

There were no adults at the home at the time of the shooting.

The handgun was recovered at the scene.

UPDATE 12/23/2019: The teen victim was treated and released Sunday night.

Detectives are continuing to investigate. More information will be released as it becomes available.

West Memphis Police are investigating after a child was shot Sunday night.

Officers responded to the scene at 8:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Walnut Drive in West Memphis, Arkansas. Investigators on the scene located a boy suffering with a gunshot wound.

Police say he was transported to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis.

This is an ongoing investigation.
