West Memphis School District officially begins search for new superintendent

The West Memphis School District announced the death of former Superintendent Terrence A. Brown on May 21, 2024.

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — The West Memphis School District is officially beginning its search for a new superintendent Monday, July 22, after the death of Dr. Terrence A. Brown in May, the district's education board announced.

Before his death, Brown had been superintendent of the district for less than one year, starting in July of 2023. Previously, he worked as the deputy superintendent for the Forrest City School District as well as serving as a regional superintendent, executive director, high school principal and middle school principal in Memphis, according to the board’s news release at the time.

The West Memphis Board of Education said the position will be posted for three weeks, and community stakeholders will have opportunities for input. The top five candidates who score the highest on the application rubric based on average scores will enter the interview process.

“We are looking for a dynamic and experienced leader to build on the district’s successes while leveraging strategic and collaborative processes,” Dr. Kimberly Wolfe, president of the West Memphis Board of Education, said in the news release. “Our goal is to attract a superintendent who values the West Memphis community. This individual must be committed to shepherding the 5-year strategic plan while cultivating a healthy culture of academic excellence.”

Applicants will need to have both classroom and school administration experience along with a current Arkansas Department of Education Licensure for District Level Administrator.
