MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Following Hurricane Helene's catastrophic flooding, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has dispatched crews from West Tennessee to assist with recovery efforts in East Tennessee.
The TDOT Strike Force team, which includes emergency responders and engineers, is focused on inspecting the structural integrity of bridges affected by high water and soil erosion.
While West TN faced localized flooding and fallen trees, East TN is experiencing extensive damage. With 27 state roadway sections, 14 bridges closed, and 5 bridges destroyed, this rapid deployment aims to efficiently cover more ground.
Although there is no immediate timeframe for full repairs, TDOT’s priority remains to ensure public safety and reconnect severed communities.
While East TN faces significant challenges, this collaborative effort highlights the state’s commitment to supporting communities in need.
