MEMPHIS, Tenn. — According to the Memphis Police Department, a boy was detained for having a gun at a Whitehaven High School football game.
Police said that around 7:30 p.m., they responded to a call at Whitehaven High School. There, officers spoke with a school resource officer (SRO) with Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS), who said he saw a suspect jump a fence to get to the stadium during a football game.
The SRO said the suspect had a backpack, which is against policy during school events.
Police said the SRO told them he saw the suspect sitting in the bleachers during the crowded game. When the SRO searched the backpack, he found a revolver with live rounds in the chamber. After this, the SRO detained the suspect, who police confirmed is a male juvenile.
MPD said the suspect was taken to the Shelby County Youth Justice and Educational Center.
