MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A shooting in Whitehaven left two people injured on Friday night, Nov. 15, according to police.

The Memphis Police Department (MPD) responded to an aggravated assault call involving firearms at the Sake vs. Tequila parking lot.

Police arrived at 3855 Elvis Presley Blvd and found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. A large crowd had gathered around the victims and two cars.

MPD searched one of the cars, a silver 2012 Mazda, and found a handgun in the backseat, behind the driver's side. A person at the scene claimed the handgun was his, stating he pulled it out when the suspect began shooting.

Both victims were taken to Regional One Health in non-critical condition, according to MPD.

A witness at the scene said she saw the suspect shooting from Elvis Presley Blvd toward the victims.

Officers found spent shell casings in the roadway on Elvis Presley where the suspect was seen shooting.

A complainant also told officers that the building was struck by gunfire.

Felony Response and Crime Scene Investigators arrived on scene and reviewed surveillance footage of the shooting. The footage showed a person returning fire at the suspect during the incident.

MPD confirmed that the firearm was not registered to a convicted felon, and the handgun was checked through the system with no negative findings.
