MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman is in custody after reportedly running into a group of children in Frayser.

Sharon Jackson, 43, is facing multiple charges, including leaving the scene of an accident, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, and failure to exercise due care. She also faces four counts of aggravated assault and leaving the scene of an accident involving injury, as well as a charge for leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage.

According to the affidavit, Jackson was driving her white 2018 Jeep Compass north on Randolph Street in Frayser on September 21, 2024, when she veered onto the sidewalk, crashing into a mailbox before hitting four children. She stopped briefly but then drove away without identifying herself or attempting to help the kids, as reported in the affidavit.

The four children, three of whom are 8 years old and one who is 7, were all taken to LeBonheur Children's Hospital for a variety of injuries. One child required surgery to repair a dislocated hip, while others needed stitches and additional medical attention.

When police contacted Jackson, she admitted to driving the Jeep and hitting the kids but claimed she left the scene because she heard gunshots. She stated that another driver was chasing her and fired shots into her car.

A witness reported seeing the entire incident and also heard a shot after the crash, but he did not know where it came from.

Police also reviewed video footage of the crash, which showed the car driving on the sidewalk and hitting the group of children.

Jackson is scheduled for a video arraignment on Monday, Oct. 28, at 9 a.m.
