MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Forrest City, Arkansas, woman is behind bars in Crittenden County, accused of leading Arkansas State Police (ASP) on a high-speed chase into West Memphis.
19-year-old Kyla Morrow is charged with fleeing, aggravated assault, leaving the scene of an accident, and reckless driving. Morrow is being held in the Crittenden County Jail
ASP did not say what led to the chase beginning Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024. Investigators said about 7:45 a.m., Morrow sped away from troopers on I-40 in West Memphis, traveling at more than 100 miles per hour.
They said as Morrow approached the I-40 and I-55 split, she changed direction and headed southbound on I-55, then stopped to avoid a trooper’s ‘tactical vehicle intervention’ maneuver, and reversed direction, heading northbound in the southbound lanes of I-55.
At that point, ASP said Morrow, who was traveling the wrong direction on I-55, collided head-on with an 18-wheeler. Investigators said she tried to run away but was captured a short distance from the crash.
ASP said both the truck’s driver and Morrow declined medical treatment and did not report any injuries.
