MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Police Department (MPD) confirmed Thursday that a child was the one who accidentally shot and killed a woman Tuesday.
Police said they responded to a shooting call at the Wolfchase Target around 7:45 p.m. Feb. 6, 2024. They said the shooting did not happen at the Target, but the man in the car drove to the Target parking lot after the woman was shot.
A woman was injured, and she was taken to St. Francis in critical condition. She later died, according to MPD.
Police said they do not know where the actual shooting happened. According to MPD, the woman was in the car with her 3-year-old son and man, and was shot from inside the car.
Thursday, MPD said investigators determined the child had access to the gun, and accidentally shot the woman. They said at this time, no one has been charged.
