Memphis police investigating interstate shooting involving off-duty police officer

Memphis Police said an argument at a club led to an overnight interstate shooting involving an off-duty police officer.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – Memphis Police said an argument at a club led to an overnight interstate shooting involving an off-duty police officer.

The shooting happened around 1 a.m. off I-40 westbound and the Sam Cooper Blvd exit. Officers had the exit blocked off early in the morning and were lined up with flash lights walking down the interstate looking for evidence.

Police were also investigating a second scene at Summer Ave. and N.Graham St. That’s where the victim shot at drove to before police arrived onscene. The victim was not injured in the shooting.

Reportedly the victim was an off-duty police officer with theSouthaven Police Department. 

On scene, two bullet holes could be seen on the back door on the driver’sside of the vehicle.

According to police, the victim was at an unnamed club in East Memphiswhere he got into an argument with the suspected shooter.

After leaving the club, the victim stopped at a gas station. He latertold police the person he got into an argument with followed him there. At thegas station another argument happened but the suspect then drove away, policesaid.

Police said the shooting occurred sometime after the victim left thegas station. He told officers he didn’t know that the person was stillfollowing him when he was shot at on the interstate.

The shooter was able to get away.

According to MPD, the suspects were possibly in a light blue 2-door Volkswagon.

The Sam Cooper Blvd shooting marked the second interstate shooting Tuesday night. The first happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday night on I-385. One person was injured from broken glass.
