A veteran Mississippi law enforcement officer has been named as Southaven’s police chief.
Southaven Mayor and the Board of Aldermen appointed and confirmed Macon Moore as the new Police Chief effective Wednesday, July 10.
Moore spent the last 7 years as the Desoto County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy after serving in several other key capacities within that department since 2009.
He started his law enforcement career with the Greenville, MS Police Department in 1989 as a Patrol Officer and served in many roles before joining the Southaven Police Department in 2001. His prior service from 2001-2009 with Southaven included positions as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, SWAT Team member, and K-9 Unit Commander before being promoted to Patrol Lieutenant, then later Training Lieutenant.
Chief Deputy Moore has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Bethel University, and graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia in 2016.
He is currently on the board of the Mississippi FBI National Association, a Board Member for the Mississippi Tactical Officers Association and an Executive Panel Member for the NTOA Breachers Symposium for Law Enforcement in Tucson, Arizona and Orlando, Florida.
Former Southaven Police Chief Steve Pirtle retired in June.
