MEMPHIS, Tennessee —
Monday night, Shelby County commissioners did not approve the “ban the box” ordinance, which is an initiative that makes it easier for convicted felons to get a second chance.
Instead, the commission approved an amendment which would give businesses incentives to remove the box asking applicants whether they've been convicted of a felony.
The final vote now moves to the next commission meeting on July 27. The ordinance will need a two-thirds majority to pass.
