(localmemphis.com) – In Tuesday’s runoff for Mississippi State Senate District 1, Michael McLendon has won the seat, with no Democratic opponent in November.
The Republicanprimary was a hotly contested seat because of the debate over Olive Branch’sattempt to annex unincorporated areas of DeSoto County.
Incumbent Chris Massey faced off against Hernando alderman Michael McLendon Tuesday. With 100% of precincts reporting, McLendon pulled ahead in the end with 52% of the vote.
McLendon has beenvery vocal against annexation. Massey has faced criticism for not doing enoughin Jackson to fight for legislation against annexation.
