Everything you need to know for Shelby County early voting and more ahead of August primaries

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Early voting begins Friday July 12, 2024, and runs through July 27 for the state and federal primary and general elections. The election date is August 1. Voters can find all the info they need at the Shelby County Election Commission.

Primary elections will be held for U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, Tennessee Senate (even-numbered districts), and Tennessee House of Representatives. General elections will be held for vacant state judicial offices and some county offices.

Here are the important dates to note:

  • The registration deadline for the August election is July 2. Voters can turn in registration documents to the Shelby County Election Commission at 980 Nixon or mail them with a postmark date of July 2. Voters can also register online at GoVoteTN.gov before midnight on July 2 if they have a record with Department of Safety. Learn more about registration HERE.
  • The public test of the early and election day voting machines is July 2 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Election Commission at 980 Nixon Drive. Learn more about the test HERE.
  • Early voting starts July 12. It runs Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays, except for July 27, when polls will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Polls are closed on Sunday. For the full schedule and locations, click HERE.

The state and federal General Election, which includes the presidential election, is set for Nov. 5. Early voting for that election will run Oct. 16 through 31.

"By providing our community with voting convenience, we are expanding the opportunity for more voters to exercise their right to vote,” said Linda Phillips, Shelby County Election administrator. “We request everyone’s support in spreading voting-related information and updates so those selected represent the community’s voice.”
