MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Lauderdale County, Tennessee, is mourning the death of retired sheriff Steve Sanders.
Current Lauderdale County Sheriff Brian L. Kelley posted to social media Wednesday, saying Sanders died after a “problematic medical battle.”
Kelly said Sanders began his career as a deputy with the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department, worked as an investigator with the Ripley Police Department, and became the longest-standing sheriff in the county’s history.
"We at the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office consider Sheriff Sanders and his loved ones a part of our family and want to express our heartfelt sympathies for the loss of this great man,” said Sheriff Kelley. “With sadness in our hearts, we find solace in knowing he is in a better place."
