MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Texas man has died after drowning in a river in Poinsett County, Arkansas, over the weekend.
The Poinsett County Sheriff’s said dispatchers received a call about a possible drowning in the river at Riverdale just before 7:30 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2024. Several area agencies responded the scene.
The sheriff said Justin Leigh Pool, 32, of New Boston, Texas, had been swimming in the river at Riverdale with four other men when the current pulled Pool under the water. The sheriff said the other swimmers tried but could not save Pool.
Pool’s body was recovered about 9:15 p.m. and sent to the Arkansas Medical Examiner. Investigators said no foul play is suspected.
“We are grateful to all the departments and individuals who assisted in the recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with Justin Pool's friends and family,” said Sheriff Kevin Molder in a post to social media.
