MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – The Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, better known as SNAP, gathered outside Memphis Catholic High School Monday. They’re calling on the Memphis Diocese to publicly name priests who are “credibly-accused” child molesters.
The group says many other dioceses already do so, including Nashville. They say it’s the only way victims can even begin to move forward and start to heal.
“The Catholic Church is bleeding from a thousand wounds. We have to clean those wounds and sew them up to bring about healing,” says Ray Berthiaume with SNAP.
SNAP is also urging the Tennessee attorney general to open an investigation into clergy sex crimes. The Tennessee attorney general’s office says the power to prosecute criminal matters in the state is with the local district attorneys.
