MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The state of Tennessee reared its ugly head on Memphis again on Thursday.
One week from Thursday night marks one month since the ice storm hit.
On February 3, 140,000 MLGW customers, or an estimated 233,000 people, were living without power. The city of Memphis and MLGW spent millions and millions of dollars repairing lines, picking up downed trees and many other businesses also suffered losses.
You would think by now, Gov. Bill Lee would have approved emergency aid, which would then go to the White House for final approval.
Especially when you take into account that after 150,000 people were powerless after tornadoes hit Middle Tennessee two months earlier, Lee toured the damage the very next day, which he never did here, and immediately called the President asking for the same declaration we're still waiting for.
On Monday, the Shelby County Commission is expected to pass a resolution asking Lee to speed things along. They shouldn't have to do that. It'd be nice if Lee would listen.
