MEMPHIS, Tenn. — In tonight’s Ransom Note: a feather in the cap for one of this city’s most esteemed universities.
No, not the UofM or Rhodes or even Christian Brothers, but an institution we too often overlook.
University of Tennessee’s Health Science Center is turning heads.
Way before the pandemic, it’s gene research and mobile stroke unit were groundbreaking.
Now we learn in addition to hoping to come up with a vaccine, Researchers will also be conducting clinical trials for a drug that can fight COVID-19.
They hope it will minimize symptoms for patients with COVID-19 who are not serious enough to be hospitalized for it. Also, it would protect people who are living with a positive patient but have so far tested negative.
Even better, Regional One Health is a partner in the trials.
There aren’t many positives that have come from this pandemic, but it’s good to see a local institution at the forefront of the research that might help us return to normal.
