MEMPHIS, Tenn. — WalletHub released a study Tuesday ranking 650 community colleges, state by state, looking at more than a dozen different factors.
Those include the cost and quality of the education, how many students graduate, and what the student-to-faculty ratio is.
Here's how the Mid-South's community colleges fared:
- Of the 13 in Tennessee, Dyersburg State was ranked 3rd, Jackson State was 12th and Southwest Tennessee in Memphis finished last at 13th.
- Of the 12 in Mississippi, Itawamba was 4th, Mississippi Delta was 11th and Coahoma was last.
- Arkansas, which has 20 community colleges, Arkansas Northeastern was 4th and East Arkansas was 15th.
With four-year colleges becoming unaffordable, community colleges are going to need to be more competitive. This study found the ones closest to the Memphis area have some work to do.
