Opinion | Two MSCS staff members resigning within a week of each other might not be a coincidence

It doesn't pass the smell test.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Richard Ransom reporting:

Tonight's "Ransom Note": Two staff members hand-picked by Feagins leave within a week of each other?

Another MSCS executive has decided to leave his job with the school district.

Superintendent Dr. Marie Feagins' executive manager Julian Cross announced his resignation Friday.

Cross said he's leaving to become a communications manager with the greater Memphis chamber.

He only started working in his role at the superintendent's office last May.

Just a week ago, Feagins' special assistant Camalyn Turner said she was resigning.

Feagins responded to Cross' announcement with a long post on Facebook, saying in part that it's a thrilling, yet bittersweet moment.

Feagins said she and Cross will continue to work alongside each other in his new role at the chamber and wished him well.

Which brings me to tonight's Ransom Note.

When you leave a job, the saying goes, "Don't burn bridges."

So, when the superintendent's chief of staff and executive manager both leave with nothing but high praise like everything is wonderful...I get it. They didn't burn any bridges.

But it doesn't pass the smell test that they resigned within a week of each other from high paying jobs. Not to mention they were hand-picked by Feagins and didn't even last half a year?

Maybe it's coincidence. But I doubt it.
