Opinion | $200 for an order of French fries? Fuhgetaboutit | Richard Ransom

Ingredients include Dom Perignon, cage-free goose fat from France, truffle oil, shaved black summer truffles from Italy, truffle butter & 23 karat edible gold dust.

MANHATTAN, New York — In Wednesday’s Ransom Note: would you like some fries with that?

Normally many of us would answer ‘yes.’ People love Huey's steak fries. I'm partial to the fries at Gus's and Young Avenue Deli.

But I doubt many of us would be inclined to order the world's most expensive fries, as declared by the Guinness Book of World Records. The "creme de la creme pomme frites" at Serendipity 3 in Manhattan cost $200 and have to be ordered in advance. Ingredients include Dom Perignon, pure cage-free goose fat from France, truffle oil, shaved black summer truffles from Italy, truffle butter, and --are you ready for this-- 23-karat edible gold dust, because every order of fries should be sprinkled with gold dust.

Drake loves his truffle oil and truffle butter, and Americans are free to spend money on whatever we want, but 200 bucks for an order of fries? When is enough, enough?
