MEMPHIS, Tenn. — In tonight’s Ransom Note: Thanksgiving the way it should be.
I was never happy when retailers suddenly decided it was okay to be open on Thanksgiving.
For me, there is enough commercialization of holidays, especially Christmas. So, it was nice to have one day, one day, where you didn’t have to buy presents, but instead it was about just being thankful and spending time with family and friends.
Well, apparently thanks to the Great Resignation, many retailers are going old school again.
Today, Target joined Walmart, Home Goods, and Best Buy by announcing they’re going dark before the biggest shopping weekend of the year.
Macy’s, Kohls, Trader Joes, Barnes and Noble, Costco and all Simon Malls, which owns Wolfchase Galleria, are doing the same.
Now a couple of co-workers disagree. They told me they enjoy shopping on Thanksgiving, and it gets boring staying at home all day.
I get it, but I applaud the move, especially for the workers, but also for the rest of us.
There’s plenty of time to go shopping.
