MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Whatever hallucinogenic material is in the water at Donald Trump’s Mar-A-Lago private club, must also be in the water at the Shelby County Clerk’s Office. How else to explain the laughable and utterly ridiculous statements made recently by Trump – and county clerk Wanda Halbert.
Ever since the FBI executed a search warrant at the Trump compound and carted away highly classified and top secret documents, Trump has been offering up a different excuse every day for why he took the documents from the White House in 2021.
Meanwhile, Halbert for months has been throwing out one excuse after another for why customers cannot get their new license plates and renewal stickers in a timely fashion.
Trump told Fox News last week he automatically declassified all the documents taken from his estate by the FBI. He then said presidents can declassify items just by thinking about it.
The next day, it was Halbert’s turn. She basically insisted that the long delays customers experienced getting tag renewals were a figment of our imagination – because, in her words, the clerk’s office never had a backlog. That’s exactly the opposite of what she said in late July when she acknowledged the backlog.
The fact is, it’s not the water at all. It just shows that regardless of party, location or position, some politicians will always shift blame, seek to confuse – and yes, even lie, to avoid accountability.
