MEMPHIS, Tenn. — In Monday’s Ransom Note: Tennessee Governor Bill Lee is feeling the heat these days on his executive order banning mask mandates in schools. There's also a class action lawsuit filed by a couple of Collierville and Germantown parents who want a restraining order against it. The suit says without a mask mandate children with underlying medical conditions aren't getting the same educational experience. They even have to eat lunch alone to avoid contact with unmasked kids. Federal judge Sheryl Lipman could make a decision in that case as early as this week.
Governor Lee is also in a bind when it comes to virtual learning. His administration Monday sent mixed messages by changing policy yet again on when schools with outbreaks can resort to remote learning. All this COVID confusion rests entirely with one person: a governor who keeps playing politics in the middle of a health crisis.
