Opinion | Will Democrat Harold Ford, Jr. thrive as a new contributor to staunchly conservative Fox News? | Richard Ransom

Former Democratic Congressman Harold Ford, Jr. just inked a deal as a contributor for Fox News.

MEMPHIS, Tennessee — In Tuesday’s Ransom Note: Fox News has a new friend. Former Democratic Congressman Harold Ford, Jr. just inked a deal as a contributor for the network. He has the political chops to be sure: Memphis congressman for ten years until 2007, and nearly beating Bob Corker in a nasty U.S. Senate race the following year, but is he walking into the lion's den?

Ford Jr. doesn't think so, saying he's "grateful for the network's commitment to showcasing a diversity of voices and viewpoints." Political consultant Susan Adler Thorp agreed -- telling me, "He's a democrat for sure, but he (Ford) almost always takes the middle ground. While Fox News embraces the political right, hopefully Jr's role will be one of reason."

To which Reverend Keith Norman, past president of the local NAACP, agreed saying,  "Our former congressman's clarion voice will provide hope and a very well informed truthful insight from an insider's perspective."

Ford Jr. has wanted a new TV gig ever since being fired by Morgan Stanley in 2017, which the company later had to admit was not due to sexual harassment as had been reported. We wish him well, and I expect we'll be seeing a lot more of him.
