Ransom: This year, there may not be much candy to take

Richard Ransom explains what's expected to happen with the candy supply this Halloween and Christmas.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Are you ready for another supply chain issue? Here it comes, and this one's pretty scary.

How about a shortage of candy this Halloween and Christmas? It's true.

Reuters reports Hershey expects it'll fall short of meeting the demand for candy for both of those holidays, and blames a scarcity of raw ingredients and difficulties in finding suppliers.

Disruptions to the supply chain aren't just pandemic-related, but apparently, Russia's war with Ukraine is crunching supplies of cocoa, edible oil and other food ingredients.

That's pinching production lines of packaged food companies around the world. Halloween accounts for about 10% of Hershey's sales all year.

This year, you may have to keep from raiding your child's take on everything from Snickers to Kit Kat bars because there may not be much candy to take.
