Opinion | Gov. Lee, if you can't renounce the obvious, then shame on you | Richard Ransom

Richard Ransom explains what he thinks about Gov. Lee's education advisor talking down on teachers across Tennessee.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Let's go back to the story that led our newscast Thursday night.

Collierville public school teachers are rightfully upset that, first of all, the guy Gov. Bill Lee has invited to start 100 charter schools in Tennessee, Larry Arnn, would say public school teachers "are trained in the dumbest part of the dumbest colleges in the country."

Secondly, and most importantly, that their governor won't renounce what his friend said.

Sure, Lee said he supports teachers, but apparently not enough to say his friend was out of line. Kudos to the Collierville School Board and teachers for saying that's not acceptable and here's hoping the governor reconsiders.

Governor, I come from four generations of public school teachers my grandma, my father, my sister and my daughter. In fact, my daughter used to teach at an underfunded public school in Knoxville.

If you can't renounce the obvious, then shame on you.
