Social distancing is helping to slow the spread of coronavirus, but data shows we need to do better at sheltering at home

Company that tracks cell phone data shows many still are on the move too much during COVID-19

MEMPHIS, Tennessee —

In Wednesday's Ransom Note: it's rare, but sometimes I feel sorry for politicians.

Like West Memphis Mayor Marco McClendon trying to get citizens to stay their you-know-what's at home.

With the economy falling, and most of us not sick, it's tempting to ignore the orders, despite what doctors are saying that the more we hunker down, the sooner we will get through this.

But here's how badly we're doing. A company called Unacast uses all of our cell phone data to track how much we're moving around gives folks in Crittenden County an F for being way too mobile. Another graph shows how they've barely slowed down at all since the pandemic started. Same with DeSoto County. Folks scored a B on social distancing April 12th but have now reverted back to an F.

We can do better folks. We need to do better.
