MEMPHIS, Tenn. — In tonight’s Ransom Note: what if you spent 200 million dollars on a new project and no one came to see it?
That’s the dilemma facing Memphis; ready to show off its new convention center redo.
Wednesday, Front and North Main Streets around the renovated Convention Center are back open signaling that the pricey project is almost finished.
So, the city and Memphis Tourism invited news crews to come take a look, but only from the outside.
The inside isn’t ready yet.
But that’s only about a month away and Kevin Kane, who is never shy about appearing on camera to brag about the downtown he loves so much, says this renovated place will be special.
"This building has all kinds of flexibility. We can make big rooms, mini rooms. It's got all kinds of amenities that have hotel first qualities," says Kevin Kane from Memphis Tourism.
The question tonight, when will this newly named Renasant Convention Center be able to be used?
COVID is cancelling conventions right and left all the first quarter of 2021.
Kane says that’s up to the virus, but at least Memphis will be ready to welcome people with a sorely updated convention center.
