MEMPHIS, Tenn. — What's going on in the scandal surrounding Shelby County Clerk Wanda Halbert?
Under normal circumstances, 'Wandering Wanda' can take a Jamaican vacation whenever she wants. But you don't skip town the same time as when the office you were elected to run is in such shambles it had to close.
Commissioner Van Turner said it best, "When you're going through a crisis, a general has to be with the troops."
Yet fresh off an election win, apparently 'Wandering Wanda' feels no accountability.

I can only assume she's ignoring messages and texts because she knows the questions we'd ask her:
- Why did she leave town?
- Why did she tell auto dealers that other county clerks were having similar problems when that's not true?
- Why is she blaming everyone but herself for all the backlogs on others when the state tells us everything was investigated and no wrongdoing was found?
As Yvonne Thomas told us, we learned fellow Democrats planned a special in-person meeting with 'Wandering Wanda', but they're keeping the location and time a secret.
That's not a good look for them. From what we're being told, it may be a violation of the Sunshine Law.
The bottom line is that 'Wandering Wanda' has some explaining to do.
The sooner she and fellow Democrats realize that it's their obligation as publicly elected officials, the better for the taxpayers who pay them.
