Will there be a spike in COVID-19 cases two weeks after Memorial Day weekend?

Time will tell if coronavirus cases will increase after some ignored social distancing and other best practices to slow the spread

MEMPHIS, Tennessee —

In Tuesday’s Ransom Note: predicting the future. None of us can, of course, but I was curious about what you folks saw and observed this past weekend.

So, I posted a very unscientific poll on Twitter based on what you saw of people socially distancing or not and knowing it takes 10-14 days to see a spike with this coronavirus.

What do you expect? Over 150 of you voted:

    52% said it's very likely

    28% said not likely

    20% said not sure

Thankfully there were no pictures from the Mid-South like this weekend gathering at the Lake of the Ozarks, but experts will tell you scenes like this are like a dream come true for this virus.

Given that we're seeing a slight spike from Mother's Day, I won't be surprised if we see a bigger increase from Memorial Day. But everything I observed personally, including a trip to Kroger and my first time to dine inside a restaurant, people were doing what they were supposed to. We'll know in a couple of weeks.
