MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Redbirds lost 5-3 in its final game of a six-game series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Sunday.
The Jumbo Shrimp got on the board first in the top of the fourth with a solo home run, the Redbirds followed suit in the bottom of the inning with two of their own solo home runs. Luken Baker tied the game with a leadoff shot to left, his fifth home run of the season. Left fielder Jared Young took a breaking ball the opposite way for a two-out homer to take a 2-1 lead.
Memphis would consolidate the lead in the bottom of the 7th with a ground ball single RBI to center field which allowed Victor Scott II to score.
It was Walker's first hit since being demoted down to Triple A to work on his swing earlier this week. Walker in his 2024 Redbirds debut had five at bats with one hit, one RBI and one walk.
In the top of the eighth the Redbirds allowed four runs and couldn't get back into the game, falling 5-3. The Redbirds lost the series 4-2.
Starting pitcher Michael McGreevy allowed one run on seven hits, walked one batter and struck out four in 5.0 innings of work. In his first relief appearance of the season, Victor Santos (1-4) allowed four runs on four hits in 2.2 innings pitched.
The Memphis Redbirds start a six-game series at Charlotte on Tuesday before returning to AutoZone Park to begin a 13-game homestand against the Norfolk Tides on Tuesday, May 7 with first pitch for 6:45 p.m. CDT.
