MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Redbirds picked up a 6-1 win over the Nashville Sounds on Thursday night at AutoZone Park.
Memphis scored three runs in the bottom of the third and another three in the bottom of the fifth.
The first of those three runs came off a Luken Baker blast to left field, which marked his third home run of the season. The hit saw Baker become the first Redbird batter to reach the double-digits in RBIs on the season.
In the fifth Memphis padded the lead. Jose Fermin stole third and Thomas Saggese hit a sacrifice fly to center field to make the score 4-0. Cesar Prieto then hit his team-leading fourth home run to put the Redbirds up by six.
Memphis' starting pitcher Michael McGreevy (1-1) laid the platform in this one. The right-handed pitcher threw 6.2 innings of shutout baseball, allowing four hits, walking one and striking out four. The start is the longest by a Redbird this season and the first scoreless.
The Redbirds continue their six-game series with the Nashville Sounds on Friday with a doubleheader starting at 5.05 p.m. CT.
