TENNESSEE, USA — Tennessee swimmer Jordan Crooks has broken the world record in the men's 50m freestyle twice in the same day.

Crooks set the new record Saturday during the preliminary round of the Short Course World Championships in Budapest. The 22-year-old swimmer beat the previous record of 20.16 set by Caeleb Dressel in 2020, claiming the new win of fastest 50m freestyle.

Earlier this week, Crooks also competed in the 100m freestyle where he placed 3rd overall in a time of 45.48.

"We got ourselves a world record holder #VolNation!" University of Tennessee Athletic Director Danny White said Saturday in a post on X. "Congrats to Jordan - what an amazing achievement!"

Later today, Crooks will compete for a second time in the semi-finals.
