MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Houston Mustangs beat the Collierville Dragons 5-2 in the final regular season game in Division 1 3A on Wednesday night over at Houston Middle School.
It marks Houston's 13th straight win and sees them undefeated on the regular season with a 15-0-1 record.
Houston's Hays Adams opened the scoring within the first ten minutes of the game. Adams connected with a long cross from Jack Langford and it somehow found its way into the back of the net.
The Mustangs certainly had the better of the opportunities in the first half but only led 1-0 at the break.
They extended the lead to 2-0 in the 65th minute off a Triden Holliday shot across the face of the goal. Holliday would grab on Wednesday when he scored his second in the 87th minute.
Collierville found the back of the net for the first time in the 69th minute. Mateo Treadwell off a free kick found the back of Cooper Nelson's head who knocked it in. Moments later Nelson was loose in front of goal off a Miguel Beltran's through ball, but the goal was called back for offsides.
In the 71st minute Langford seemingly put to bed any hope of a comeback from the Dragons as he slotted one to make it 3-1. Clayton Somogyi added to the total with a goal of his own 5 minutes later.
Darsh Shah grabbed a second goal for the Dragons in the 74th minute, but by that point the game was over.
With the regular season now finished, here is how things shapeup for the playoffs. Houston (1) will play Arlington (4), while Bartlett (2) will play Collierville (3).
