MEMPHIS, Tenn — Houston High School won their first ever football state championship, Saturday night, in Chattanooga during the TSSAA BlueCross Bowl. They beat Oakland High School, 24-9.
In the pouring rain, Houston pulls an upset over the three-time defending state champions. Damon Sisa rushed for 179 yards and a touchdown. Chandler Day threw for just 25 yards, but completed a pass to Shawne Jones for a score as well.
The Houston defense was the difference. They forced four turnovers and held Oakland to 202 total yards.
Late in the 4th quarter down 16-9, Oakland looked to tie the game, but Tony Williams caught an interception and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown to put the Mustangs up two scores.
On the following possession, Andre Allen forced another interception to ice the game.
Sisa was named BlueCross Bowl Most Valuable Player.
