Matt Carpenter shines but Redbirds fall to the Tides, 9-4

Matt Carpenter's Home Run Highlights MLB Rehab Return; Redbirds Look to Rebound in Series Continuation

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Redbirds Fall 9-4 to Norfolk Tides, Tuesday evening, despite Matt Carpenter's First Home Run in Memphis Since 2011.

The defeat halts the Redbirds' five-game winning streak.

Carpenter, the first baseman, stole the show by smashing a home run during the fifth inning, marking his first MLB Rehab Appearance since 2019. Carpenter's standout performance included a 2-for-3 record at bat, featuring a home run, two RBIs, and a walk.

Alongside Carpenter, two other Memphis hitters enjoyed a productive night, each securing two hits. Jordan Walker, playing in right field, went 2-for-3 with a walk, while third baseman Jared Young went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Gordon Graceffo, starting on the mound with a record of 3-3, endured a challenging outing, allowing five runs on six hits over 5.2 innings. The pitcher struggled initially, conceding all five runs within the first 1.2 innings, but then rallied to hold off the Tides, leaving five runners stranded in the subsequent 4.0 scoreless innings.

The Memphis Redbirds will resume their 13-game homestand and six-game series against the Norfolk Tides on Wednesday, May 8th, at AutoZone Park. The game is set to commence at 6:05 p.m. CDT.
