MEMPHIS, Tenn. — March Madness is here, and the NCAA has announced the teams playing at FedExForum for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
Memphis is hosting NCAA Tournament games for the first time in seven years, bringing an expected 20,000 people to Beale Street from March 22 to 24.
Memphis Mayor Paul Young gave his thoughts Sunday on the event, and the security in place.
"We are super excited to welcome the NCAA tournament and guests to downtown next weekend," Young said. "We will have enhanced security protocols throughout downtown - including bike and mounted MPD officers, additional screening efforts on Beale Street, plus an enhanced Blue Suede Brigade presence."

NCAA Tournament South Region first round
- No. 1 Houston (30-4) vs. No. 16 Longwood (21-13)
- No. 8 Nebraska (22-10) vs. No. 9 Texas A&M (20-14)
NCAA Tournament West Region first round
- No. 6 Clemson (21-11) vs. No. 11 New Mexico (26-9)
- No. 3 Baylor (23-10) vs. No. 14 Colgate (25-9)
NCAA Tournament South Region second round
- No. 1 Houston/No. 16 Longwood vs. No. 8 Nebraska/No. 9 Texas A&M
NCAA Tournament West Region second round
- No. 6 Clemson/No. 11 New Mexico vs. No. 3 Baylor/No. 14 Colgate
Memphis last hosted NCAA Tournament games in 2017, and last hosted first and second-round games in 2001.
The Bluff City was set to have NCAA Tournament games in 2021, but those were cancelled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
