MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – You can see a lot of love for former Memphis Grizzlies star Marc Gasol from Grizzlies fans on Twitter.
One tweet reads, “Could not be happier for you Marc Gasol. Memphis is rooting for you.”
The face behind one of the most popular Grizzlies’ Twitter accounts is someone many did not expect to see.
Enter the Grizzlies Twitterverse, and you can’t miss Made in Memphis, the most popular Grizzlies fan account that, up until now, was run anonymously.
“I definitely assumed you were a 30-something guy. Possibly bald. Definitely nerdy. Yeah that’s me.“
That’s Molly Morrison. 18-years-old, a young woman, and the brain behind Made in Memphis. The die-hard Grizz fan started the account in 7th grade.
“Originally, I made the account because I was such a fan girl,“ Morrison said.
It’s not like she’s the latest NBA burner account. Friends and family knew, but most of her followers had no idea.
“I wanted to reveal, to teach people a lesson. We had finished watching game three of the finals, and I was going to bed and decided I’m going to tell people who I am tomorrow and I’m nervous and freaked out, but I want to.“
In 24 hours, Made in Memphis gained 3,000 new followers, she had a column written about her, she went on the Chris Vernon radio show, and got a Tony Allen bathrobe.
“It makes me really proud of my city that they’re embracing me so much, and I haven’t gotten any hate. Fingers crossed.“
Both on Twitter and in real life, Molly loves the Grizzlies.
“This is actually my favorite Grizzlies item. It’s an L.A. Clippers trash can. It’s funny because I have no hard feelings towards the Clippers anymore, because they don’t have Chris Paul or Blake Griffin, but there was a time we hated them so much and they were trash,“ Morrison said.
Molly Morrison is Made in Memphis, and the account is here to stay.
“I love my account. I enjoy my tweets. I laugh at myself. I think they’re funny. Sometimes they give me the chills. It’s a mix of both. It’s a fan account for the team I love.“
