MEMPHIS, Tenn — The list of injuries for the Memphis Grizzlies might have just grown longer. Guard Desmond Bane sprained his ankle in the third quarter against the Los Angeles Clippers Friday night and did not return.
Bane caught a pass and was driving to the basket when he stepped on the ankle of Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard in the third quarter.
Bane stayed on the ground for a while and then tried to test the ankle for a few moments before heading to the locker room with a trainer. The Grizzlies ruled him out of the remainder of the game soon after. Bane had 15 points and three assists.
The injury report continues to grow for the Grizzlies. Ja Morant will miss the rest of the season after successful surgery on the shoulder he injured against the Suns on Sunday. Guard Marcus Smart will miss six weeks after injuring his right ring finger during the Mavericks game on Wednesday.
Guard Derrick Rose, nursing a hamstring, has missed the last five games. Santi Aldama is sidelined by a knee contusion. He's missed the last two games.
The team is also missing big men Steven Adams (knee, season) and Brandon Clarke (Achilles). Clarke has publicly expressed optimism that he could return around the All-Star break in February, but the Grizzlies have not put a timeline on his return.
