MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Grizzlies guard Desmond Bane will miss extended time, according to the team. Bane sprained his ankle January 12 against the Los Angeles Clippers. The Grizzlies say it is a Grade Three sprain and that Bane will miss at least the next six weeks.
It's the latest blow for the Memphis Grizzlies, who played their January 13 game against the Knicks with just eight active players.
Bane has had foot problems in the past. He missed 17 games during the 2022-2023 season with a broken medial sesamoid bone in his right big toe. The guard had successful surgery over the summer and returned playing at a star's level.
Bane is averaging a career high 24.4 points while shooting 47.4% from the field and 38.4% from three-point range. He's also putting up a career high 5.3 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game.
The team announced that Jake LaRavia also has a Grade Two ankle sprain and will miss at least three weeks. He suffered the injury in the first quarter against the New York Knicks on January 13.
The Grizzlies have had considerable injury bad luck this season. They lost Ja Morant, Bane, LaRavia and Marcus Smart to injuries all in the same week.
