MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Grizzles have been plagued with injuries to start the 2023-24 season.
Days before opening night, the organization announced center Steven Adams would have season-ending knee surgery. Brandon Clarke is still recovering from an Achilles tear that he suffered in early March.
Santi Aladama, primed to take a major leap in playing time this year, sprained his ankle during practice in the preseason and is yet to make his regular season debut.
Prior to Monday's game against the Dallas Mavericks, Jenkins gave an optimistic update regarding the third-year forward.
"Santi is progressing well," Jenkins said. "He will probably get a five-on-five play under his belt in the next couple of days so he is trending well. Not a definitive day yet."
Jenkins also gave an update on Luke Kennard, who was hit in the face in the second half of the team's opener against the New Orleans Pelicans and went into the league's concussion protocol.
Jenkins said we could see him return for the Grizzles by the next road game against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night.
"Luke is progressing well in the concussion protocol. his symptoms are gone. All the different stages I downloaded a couple of days ago, he's cleared all of those. we are hopeful, hopefully it's on the shorter end."
Aldama will likely remain out for the next few games.
The Grizzlies look to get their first win of the 2023-2024 NBA season Monday against the Dallas Mavericks at the FedExForum. Memphis is 0-3 on the young season.
