MEMPHIS, Tenn — The Memphis Grizzlies are trying to shore up their injury riddled roster. The team announced they were signing Scotty Pippen Jr. to a two-way contract, Tuesday.
Pippen Jr., the son of Chicago Bulls great Scotty Pippen, signs to a Grizzlies roster that's lost it's three best guards in Ja Morant (shoulder), Desmond Bane (ankle), Marcus Smart (finger) for significant amounts of time. Morant will miss the rest of the season while Bane and Smart are out at least the next six weeks.
Pippen Jr. has appeared in 17 games for the South Bay Lakers, the LA Lakers G-League affiliate, in 2023 and 2024. He's averaging 20. 2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.9 assists in about 30 minutes.
The guard went undrafted in 2022, but was selected to play in the 2023 Rising Stars Game for NBA All-Star weekend.
The Grizzlies are fresh off a win over the Golden State Warriors, 116-107, where 87 of the Grizzlies points were scored by players who spent time with the Memphis Hustle, the Grizzlies G-League affiliate.
Memphis hits the road for a four game road trip. They will play the Minnesota Timberwolves, Thursday, January 18. Tip off is 9 p.m.
