Memphis Grizzlies add six new assistants to coaching staff in offseason rebuild

The Grizzlies bench will look a lot different next season as Memphis add and promote several coaches, while parting ways with many others.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Grizzlies have been making lots of moves behind closed doors this offseason. On Sunday it culminated with the team announcing the addition of six new assistant coaches to help Taylor Jenkins in 2024-25 and beyond.

That means only two assistants from last seasons team are still with the squad - Patrick St. Andrews and Anthony Carter. It will be the second season with the team for both Andrews and Carter.

Joining the duo of Andrews and Carter will be Jason March, Erik Schmidt, Tuomas Iisalo, Patrick Mutombo, Noah LaRoche and Joe Boylan.

Jason March - March has been the Memphis Hustle's (Grizzlies G League team) head coach since 2019 and this year has been rewarded with not only the assistant coaching position but also the Summer League head coaching position. During his time with the Hustle he recorded over 100 wins as a head coach in the G League and played a big part in several players getting called up to the NBA.

Erik Schmidt - Schmidt is the other new assistant who gets promoted from within the Grizzlies organization. Last season he was the team's video coordinator but he's been with the team since the 2019-20 season.

Tuomas Iisalo - As ABC-24 reported on Saturday, the Grizzlies had hired Iisalo from the French League in Europe where his offensive style of play led Paris Basketball to a EuroCup championship and a French League finals appearance.

Patrick Mutombo - Having been a coach with the Phoenix Suns, Toronto Raptors, Denver Nuggets and most recently as an assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks, Mutombo joins the Grizzlies with a wealth of experience.

Noah LaRoche - This will be LaRoche's first assistant gig with an NBA team but he has worked with several NBA players over the years through his own premiere basketball training and consulting company - Integrity Hoops

Joe Boylan - This isn't Boylan's first stop with the Grizzlies, in fact he was a player development coach with the team from 2015-18. Most recently he served as an assistant coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Adding these six coaches as assistants means Brad Jones, Blake Ahearn, Vitaly Potapenko, Sonia Raman and Scoonie Penn are no longer with the team.
