MEMPHIS, Tenn — The Memphis Grizzlies are paying homage to the 50th anniversary of Memphis Sounds and the city's rich musical heritage.

Memphis will wear striking red City Edition uniforms during the 2024-2025 season.

"In 1974, former ABA Commissioner Mike Storen took over operations of the Memphis franchise, lining up local co-owners, including Stax legend Isaac Hayes, and renaming it the Memphis Sounds to honor the city’s rich musical heritage. This year’s City Edition uniform celebrates that legacy with a modern Grizzlies flare," said a description of the uniform on NBA.com.

The uniforms feature a bright red base inspired by the Memphis Sounds' past uniforms, with the wordmark inspired by the Sounds' 1974/75 jerseys. They also have a pop of Beale Street Blue that the Grizzlies are known for, with "record gold" from the team's ‘Memphis Soul’ 2020/21 City Edition uniforms, according to the team.

The shorts have a "new oversized ‘G-Note’ logo on the left short leg, inspired by the 1994/95 G-Swipe and the musical history of the Sounds and their ABA roots" according to the description.
