MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Grizzlies will retire Tony Allen's No. 9 jersey in March, according to the NBA.
The retirement will be on Saturday, March 15, following the Grizzlies' game against the Miami Heat.
Allen will be the third player in franchise history to have his jersey retired, joining Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol.
"It was flattering, it was humbling. I was excited. A lot of things come to mind, but for the most part, the Grizzlies always had my back. I'm a Grizzly for life," Allen said back in May. "Just knowing that the number nine will never be worn again, it's basically a dream come true."
The former forward and member of the "Core Four" played seven seasons for the Grizzlies, six of which ended in a playoff run.
Allen was a six-time NBA All-Defensive Team selection.
The Core Four were a critical part of the Grit and Grind era of Memphis Basketball, culminating in a Western Conference Finals appearance in 2014. Forward Zach Randolph had his jersey retired in 2021, while Marc Gasol joined him in 2024.
"Those are my brothers, Big Spain, Z-Bo. The hard work, the blood, sweat and tears that we put in, and that's a sign of letting it be known it paid off," Allen said in May.
Tickets for the March 15 game are available for purchase by going online to grizzlies.com/tickets. The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a Commemorative Vinyl Record, according to a press release from the NBA.
Full details for the jersey retirement ceremony will be announced at a later date.
