MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Grizzlies have parted ways with guard Derrick Rose after just one season, according to a report from The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Multiple reports cite that the Grizzlies agreed to a buyout after Rose asked to be let out of his contract.

The former Memphis Tigers and 2011 NBA MVP joined the Grizzlies in July of 2023 on a two-year deal.

During his time with the Grizzlies, the guard played in 24 games while only starting in seven due to injuries he was battling. He averaged 17.4 points per game and 5.2 assists.

After leading the Memphis Tigers to a national title game in 2007-08, Rose was drafted as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 draft by the Chicago Bulls. He spent seven years there and was the youngest ever MVP.

Rose later played for the Knicks, Cavaliers, Timberwolves and Pistons before signing with the Grizzlies.

During exit interviews with the Grizzlies at the end of the 2023-24 season, Rose said he intended to come back.

The Grizzlies now have two open roster spots after waiving Rose and forward Mamadi Diakite last month.
